The article discusses whether a short translation course has an impact on a student’s translation skills, especially on the development of text conventions. The research investigated recipes translated from Russian into Finnish by Russian students. The study compares translations produced during the course with the translations produced in the final exam. It was found that during the translation course, text conventions began to approach those of the target language.
