The article is devoted to the history of creation of writing systems for Vepsians and Izhora in the 1930s in the Leningrad region, organization of the process of teaching in schools in their native language as part of the implementation of the state policy of educating national minorities. This period in the history of the Vepsians and Izhora made a significant contribution to the study of their languages and cultures, but led to tragic consequences for many of its participants.
