The report is devoted to the history of the creation of the fundamental for the Karelian dialectology work of D. V. Bubrikh – "Dialectological atlas of the Karelian language" (1997), as well as the analysis of the possibilities of using the materials collected in the process of its preparation, which have not lost their relevance to solve the most important issues of dialect division of the studied language.
