The article considers the area of oikonyms with the element -selgy ‘mountain, hill’ against the general background of all toponyms that include the component -selgy. A map of place names is proposed. The reasons and time of the model appearance are revealed. The etymology of names is described: some of them go back to calendar and non-calendar names, while the rest are landscape terms. In conclusion, we analyze the genesis of the model -vuaru‘mountain covered with forest’ against the background of place names that include the component -selgy.
